Texas Instruments recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and to keep the analog and digital signals separate. Additionally, use short and direct traces for the analog inputs and outputs, and avoid crossing digital and analog signals.
To configure the ADS1601IPFBT for differential input mode, connect the IN+ pin to the positive input signal and the IN- pin to the negative input signal. Ensure that the common-mode voltage is within the specified range, and set the gain and offset registers accordingly.
The maximum sampling rate of the ADS1601IPFBT is 1.5 MSPS. However, the actual sampling rate may be limited by the system clock frequency, the analog input bandwidth, and the digital output data rate.
The ADS1601IPFBT outputs 16-bit digital data in two's complement format. The output data is available on the D[15:0] pins, with the most significant bit (MSB) on D15 and the least significant bit (LSB) on D0. The output data is updated on each clock cycle, and the data is valid on the rising edge of the clock signal.
The typical power consumption of the ADS1601IPFBT is 35 mW at 1.5 MSPS. To minimize power consumption, use the lowest possible clock frequency, disable the internal reference voltage, and use the power-down mode when the ADC is not in use.
