A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate layer for the high-current path is recommended. Keep the high-current path as short as possible and use wide traces (at least 1 oz copper) to minimize resistance and inductance.
The sense resistor value depends on the maximum current and voltage of your application. Use the formula Rsense = (Vfs / Imax) to calculate the sense resistor value, where Vfs is the full-scale voltage (typically 50 mV) and Imax is the maximum current.
The EN (enable) pin is used to turn the device on or off. Connect EN to a logic high (e.g., VCC) to enable the device, or connect it to a logic low (e.g., GND) to disable it. You can also use the EN pin to implement a low-power shutdown mode.
The BQ29412DCTRG4 has built-in OCP and OVP features. For OCP, set the sense resistor value to trigger the OCP threshold (typically 150% of Imax). For OVP, set the voltage threshold using the VSET pin and the internal voltage reference.
Use a low-ESR ceramic capacitor (e.g., X5R or X7R) with a value of at least 10 μF and a voltage rating of 2x the input voltage. This ensures stable operation and minimizes voltage ripple.
