A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the input and output traces short and away from each other to minimize noise coupling. Use a common-mode choke or a ferrite bead to filter the input power lines.
The MAX238CNG+ requires a bias voltage of 3.3V to 5V on the VCC pin. Ensure the bias voltage is stable and noise-free by using a low-dropout regulator or a voltage reference. Decouple the VCC pin with a 10uF capacitor to ground.
The MAX238CNG+ can handle input voltages up to 36V, but it's recommended to limit the input voltage to 24V to ensure reliable operation and minimize the risk of damage.
Use a voltage supervisor or a reset IC to monitor the input voltage and reset the MAX238CNG+ if the voltage exceeds the recommended maximum. Add a current-limiting resistor or a fuse in series with the input power line to prevent overcurrent conditions.
A 10uF to 22uF ceramic capacitor is recommended for the input capacitor (CIN). This value provides a good balance between noise filtering and stability.
