The MC33063AP can handle input voltages up to 40V, but it's recommended to keep it below 35V for reliable operation.
The inductor value depends on the output voltage, output current, and switching frequency. A good starting point is to use the inductor selection guide in the datasheet or online calculators. Typically, a value between 10uH to 100uH is suitable for most applications.
The bootstrap capacitor (CBOOT) is used to generate the high-side gate drive voltage. A value between 10nF to 100nF is suitable for most applications. The capacitor should be rated for high voltage (at least 50V) and have low ESR.
Ensure good thermal design, use a heat sink if necessary, and keep the device away from heat sources. Monitor the device temperature and adjust the design as needed to keep TJ within the recommended range (-40°C to 125°C).
Keep the high-current paths short and wide, and use a solid ground plane. Place the input and output capacitors close to the device. Keep the inductor and diode away from sensitive analog circuits. Follow the recommended layout guidelines in the datasheet or application notes.
