A 2-layer or 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and thermal vias is recommended. Keep the switching node (SW pin) away from sensitive analog nodes and ensure good thermal conduction to the PCB.
Use a combination of ceramic and electrolytic capacitors for the output filter. Choose capacitors with low ESR and high ripple current ratings. Optimize the filter design using simulation tools or consult the application note AN-114 from Monolithic Power Systems.
A low-ESR ceramic capacitor (e.g., X5R or X7R) with a value of 4.7 μF to 10 μF is recommended. This helps to filter out input noise and ensure stable operation.
Ensure the sense resistor (RS) is correctly sized and connected. The OCP threshold is 1.5 A typical. Consult the datasheet for the correct RS value calculation and connection diagram.
Use a heat sink or thermal pad to dissipate heat. Ensure good airflow and keep the regulator away from other heat sources. Consult the datasheet for thermal resistance and junction temperature ratings.
