A 2-layer or 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and thermal vias is recommended. Ensure a low-impedance path for the input and output capacitors. Refer to the TI application note 'TPS40057 Layout Guidelines' for more information.
Choose capacitors with low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and high ripple current ratings. For input capacitors, use X5R or X7R dielectrics with a voltage rating of 10-20% higher than the input voltage. For output capacitors, use low-ESR ceramic or polymer capacitors with a voltage rating of 10-20% higher than the output voltage.
The TPS40057PWPG4 is rated for operation up to 85°C ambient temperature. However, for reliable operation, it's recommended to keep the ambient temperature below 70°C to ensure a junction temperature below 125°C.
Ensure the input voltage is within the recommended range (4.5V to 18V). Apply power to the VIN pin first, followed by the EN pin. The device will start up in a disabled state; use the EN pin to enable the converter. Refer to the datasheet for the recommended power-up sequence.
Use a shielded inductor, keep the input and output capacitors close to the device, and use a low-ESR output capacitor. Ensure the PCB layout minimizes loop areas and uses a solid ground plane. Add EMI filters or common-mode chokes as needed to meet EMI standards.
