TI provides a recommended PCB layout in the datasheet (Figure 23) and in the TPS54872PWP Evaluation Module User's Guide (SLUU444). Follow these guidelines to minimize noise, ensure proper thermal management, and optimize performance.
Choose input capacitors with low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and high ripple current rating. For output capacitors, select ones with low ESR, high capacitance, and a voltage rating above the output voltage. Refer to the datasheet (Section 7.2) for more information and capacitor selection guidelines.
The TPS54872PWP is rated for operation up to 85°C ambient temperature. However, it's essential to consider the device's thermal management and ensure proper heat dissipation to maintain reliable operation.
The soft-start feature is enabled by connecting the SS pin to a capacitor to GND. The soft-start time is determined by the capacitor value and the internal resistor (R_SS). Refer to the datasheet (Section 7.3.5) for more information and calculation guidelines.
The EN (Enable) pin is used to turn the device on or off. Connect EN to a logic high (VIN or a voltage above 1.2 V) to enable the device, and connect it to a logic low (GND) to disable it. Use a pull-down resistor to ensure the device is disabled during power-up.
