STMicroelectronics recommends a 2-layer PCB with a thermal pad connected to a large copper area on the bottom layer to dissipate heat efficiently.
Use a heat sink with a thermal resistance of 10°C/W or lower, and ensure good airflow around the device. Also, consider derating the device's current handling capability at high temperatures.
A 10uF to 22uF X7R or X5R ceramic capacitor is recommended, with a voltage rating of 25V or higher, placed as close to the VIN pin as possible.
Use a shielded cable for the output, keep the input and output traces separate, and add a common-mode choke or ferrite bead to the output to reduce EMI.
The maximum allowed voltage drop is 0.5V, but it's recommended to keep it below 0.3V to ensure reliable operation and minimize power loss.
