STMicroelectronics recommends a 2-layer or 4-layer PCB with a thermal pad connected to a large copper area on the bottom layer to dissipate heat efficiently.
Ensure proper heat sinking, use a thermal interface material, and follow the recommended PCB layout. Also, consider derating the device's current handling capability according to the temperature derating curve in the datasheet.
A 10uF to 22uF X7R or X5R ceramic capacitor is recommended for input decoupling, placed as close to the device as possible. The capacitor should be rated for the input voltage and have a low ESR.
Use a TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diode or a varistor in parallel with the input to protect against voltage spikes and transients. Ensure the TVS or varistor is rated for the maximum input voltage and has a response time faster than the device's internal protection circuitry.
A 10uF to 22uF X7R or X5R ceramic capacitor is recommended for output filtering, placed as close to the device as possible. The capacitor should be rated for the output voltage and have a low ESR.
